The Charité is a joint institution of free the University of Berlin and the Humboldt Universität of Berlin.  Founded in 1710, it has been seen since then as one of Germany's most important hospitals. The Charité, with four locations on campus Benjamin Franklin, campus Berlin Buch, campus Charité Mitte and campus Virchow clinic, is Europe's largest University Hospital. The Chronicle of academic occupational medicine in Berlin describes the history since the founding of the first Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Arbeitsphysiologie in Berlin by the founding director Prof. Dr. Max Rubner in 1913.
